The banjocat new imported from Peru immediately attract attention due to their interesting colouring in contrast to other species of the same relation circle. Therefore some animals are almost unicoloured white while other specimens mainly show some irregular black markings. The care of this species does not differ from that of other relatives of this kind and so these animals have extreme hiding habits. During the day they bury themselves in fine sand or retire inside a foliage layer, which also can be imitateted in the aquarium. At night they leave their hiding place and in search of food. The nutrition is not too difficult, because among frozen food they easily accept dry food, too. If you socialize day active species with these tetras, you absolutely have to feed them after the lights went out, because these fish would starve otherwise. As they probably only grow up to 8cm and are far from being active swimmers, aquariums containing 60 litres are sufficient for 5 animals. Nothing has become known yet about the breeding. If is not yet clarified if this species in fact belongs to the kind Bunocephalus, as it is quite possible that you must count them among the species Pterobunocephalus (possibly dolichurus?), because they have many anal rays.
