Especially at the juvenile stage there seem to exist different colour variants of Boulengerella lucius. And it is doubtful if it really is Boulengerella lucius, which is why also this kind is being offered as B. sp. aff. lucius. This form of pike imported from Peru does not distinguish in the care, so tanks with a capacity of 600 litres minimum must be available to be able to adequately care for these fish which grow up to 42cm. Right after their import wildcaught specimens can actually only be fed with live fish. Little by little you can continuously try to get the animals used to dead fish by using small dead fish. This is mostly successful. For the time being, single very young specimens can possibly get used to live white mosquito larvas and later also to dead mosquito larvas. If the animals are over 10cm, however, you must feed them with fish, as their need for food will be far greater and the mosquito larvas will no longer be sufficient. There are no high demands to the aquarium and decoration, it only has to always be well-covered, because these robbers are excellent jumpers. Fish which are socialized with them must either have a high back body form or be clearly bigger than 15cm (adult animals: 25cm ), otherwise they will sooner or later become vicitims of Boulengerella.(Photo & Text von T.
