From India we could import a pretty close relative or a variant of Barbus filamentosus The reddish coloured outer areas of the caudal fin are remarkable with these barbs. Their maximum size might lie as with Barbus filamentosus within the range of approximately 12 – 15 cm. In larger community tanks they can represent a beautiful eyecatcher within the middle water range. As their relatives they need a large free swimming area where they are able to rave. With not to strong lighting and a darker bottom they show their most beautiful colours. Like most barbs they prosper still well in middle hard water. As omnivorous fishes they are unproblematic in their nutrition, nearly all fish foods are greedily devoured. The breeding is possible in softer water, since they tend to eat their spawn, the parents should be removed immediately after spawning.(Photo F. Schäfer, Text K. Diehl)
