We
could import this extreme beautiful species of snakehead in very small
numbers from the north of India. The True Blue is obviously a close
relative of C. stewartii; both attain a length of about 25 cm. The two
photographed specimens have a quite different pattern. Most probably the
smaller specimen is a female (it has 15.5 cm total length, the larger
animal is 18 cm long).
The
True Blue should be kept at least for periods of several weeks at
rather cool water temperatures, eg 15-20°C, as it originates from
mountain areas. The species has been bred already in the aquarium, it is
a mouthbrooding species.
